About Betsy

My first home was a dormitory at The Lawrenceville School, outside of Princeton, New Jersey, where my dad was on the faculty, and my mother shared house mastering duties for forty-five teenage boys. An athlete in high school at Princeton Day School, I graduated from Mount Holyoke College and later earned a master’s degree in history from Duke University.

I served as a senior admissions officer at Reed College in Portland, Oregon, for ten years.

I read applications, ran the transfer admission and financial aid process, interviewed hundreds of prospective students, and visited high schools nationwide. After the birth of our twin sons, my husband and I moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, and I returned to my first calling, working with secondary school students and their parents, as I had done for ten years following college graduation
At Greenhills School, I served as the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid and the Director of College Counseling for nineteen years. Both of our sons are in college now. Johnny is majoring in Government at Pomona College, while Will is a Psychology/Public Policy double major at Claremont McKenna College.
Now, as an independent college admission counselor, I can focus full-time on the work that I love and am best suited for - advising high school students and their families looking for the “best-fit college” and helping them submit the strongest applications possible.
Over the decades, I have read thousands of college essays as a collegiate admissions officer and a high school college counselor. I am well-versed in the best practices regarding the timing of standardized testing, the ever-evolving test-optional landscape, Early Decision, Early Action, transfer admissions, FAFSA requirements, and the financial aid process.
My goal in working with your student is to find the right pathway at a college where they will flourish—be it an Ivy League school, a flagship state university, or a small college. Over the years, I have helped guide students to hundreds of colleges and universities nationwide and overseas.
Applying to college can be daunting and anxiety-producing. I aim to make that process understandable and fulfilling.
I look forward to working with your family.
